TWO teams from Pobailscoil Ghaoth Dobhair competed in the National Final of Clár na gComhlachtaí.
The competition for young entrepreneurs was held at the Connemara Coast Hotel and streamed live on Facebook on Thursday.Donegal
Oisín Ó Duibhir, Mairtín Mac Giolla Chomhaill, Katie Ní Fhearraigh and Eimear Nic Pháidín whose project Voltas involves lighting created from recycled cans of tomatoes from their school canteen.
Ella Nic Giolla Chomhaill, Hanna Nic Diarmada and Niamh Nic Pháidín presented their project Crainn Cruthaitheach.
The Pobailscoil Ghaoth Dobhair student’s had a busy two days visiting Galway.
On Wednesday, the day before the competition started they visited University of Galway, where they met with the President of the University, Professor Ciarán Ó hÓgartaigh.
They met with third level students who are involved in exciting and innovative projects at the college. They offered them insight into the exciting courses available in Irish at the college.
They were also given the opportunity to showcase their projects to the University students and staff.
Before the competition started the students participated in a training session with Lorg Media. The marketing company offered the teenagers professional guidance and insight into how to successfully pitch a business idea.
The students then presented their project to a panel of judges on Thusday afternoon.
Katie Ní Fhearraigh and Eimear Nic Pháidín presented on behalf of the Voltas team.
They showed the audience a video and handed out leaflets outlining how they came up with their innovative idea.
The presentation included an impressive list of local shops who are now selling their stunning lighting fixtures.
Ella Nic Giolla Chomhaill and Hanna Nic Diarmada presented on behalf of Crainn Cruthaitheach team.
They showed the beautiful house hold items they created from 100 per cent recycled material including discarded wood from the schools workshop.
They are also selling their products in local shops. Their presentation included photos from a local hotel who have displayed their products.
The teams were competing for the opportunity to participate in the Junior Achievement Europe Final which will take place in Istanbul, Turkey in July.
The winning project was Soláthróirí Spóirt from Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne in Kerry.
