Funeral today of workplace accident victim

A MAN in his 60s who died following a workplace accident in Donegal last week will be laid to rest in Fermanagh today.

Gerry Keown, of Carnmore, Roscor, Bellek passed away following a fatal accident at a premises in Ballyshannon last Wednesday, January 29.

Mr Keown’s remains will arrive in St John the Baptist Church, Toura, for funeral Mass at 11am today followed by interment in the adjoining cemetery.

The Mill Park Hotel in Donegal Town, where Mr Keown recently retired from working, led tributes online to their former “dear colleague and friend”.

“Gerry was a valued member of our maintenance team from September 2002 until his retirement in September 2024. During this time, he was not only dedicated to keeping our hotel running smoothly but also brought kindness, hard work, and a warm spirit to every day.”

Mr Keown is survived by his wife Marie, son Jason, sister Mary, brother Patrick and family circle. The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) are investigating the incident.
