Fiona (née McGinley) was an exceptionally talented artist and teacher whose work brought her admiration and praise, not just in Donegal, but much further afield.

She was a batik artist, working from her home studio in the town.

Previously studying fine art painting in the Dublin Institute of Technology, Fiona qualified for a teacher’s diploma in the College of Marketing and Design.

She taught art at Mulroy College in Milford before deciding to work full-time from home as an artist.

Much of Fiona’s artwork was inspired by the beautiful scenery of the north west, particularly the Gaeltacht on the west coast of the county where she used to spend her summers since she was a child.

In a beautiful tribute on the school’s social media page, Mulroy College remembered how Fiona’s incredible artistic talent guided, supported and mentored so many students.

“Fiona’s caring approach and kindness was felt by everyone she met. Fiona saw the best in everyone.

“Her smile and positive spirit spread joy and happiness to everyone she met.”

Fiona’s remains will repose at her home, 44 Glenoughty Close, Glencar, today (Tuesday), December 23 from 10am until 10pm.

Family time after 10pm and tomorrow morning (Wednesday).

Requiem Mass will take place at 11am tomorrow morning, Wednesday, in St Eunan’s Cathedral, Letterkenny.

After Mass, burial will take place in Conwal Graveyard.

Fiona is predeceased by her father Charlie McGinley and her brother-in-law, Ollie Horgan.

She is the beloved wife of Joe and devoted mother of Alison, Dónall, Rónan and Sarah.

She will be sadly missed by her loving husband, daughters and sons, her mother, Eileen and sisters, Anita, Maureen (Jack), Deirdre (Daithi), Michelle (Cormac), brothers, Liam, Domhnall, Cathal and Donnacha (Áine) parents-in-law, Margaret and Francis, sisters-in-law, Tina and Rachel, brothers-in-law, Kieran and Frankie, nephews, nieces, relatives and many friends.
