Funeral to take place today of Letterkenny man John Hanlon

THERE was much sadness locally following the sad passing of Letterkenny man John Hanlon earlier this week.

Mr Hanlon passed away peacefully in the caring hands of the staff in the Donegal Hospice on Monday, June 30.

Requiem Mass will take place today at 11am in St Columba’s Church, Glenswilly with burial afterwards in Conwal Cemetery.

Meanwhile, tributes have been pouring in for the much-loved Letterkenny man.

Leading tribute to their former colleague was Highland Bakery in Letterkenny.

“With a heavy heart we want to pass on our sincere condolences to the Hanlon family at this difficult time,” a spokesperson said.

“John was a founding member of our Highland family and a true legend, our hearts are broken.

“It was not easy coming in this morning, not a man for cameras but a hardworking man and a true friend to everyone who knew him.

“Rest in eternal peace John you are always in our hearts.”

Many have remembered Mr Hanlon as a very kind and warm hearted gentleman, who will be sadly missed.

Another said he was a very special person who was always a pleasure to talk to.

Mr Hanlon is predeceased by his father Sammy and his mother Sarah. He is the cherished and beloved husband of Maeve.

He will be sadly missed by his heartbroken wife, his children – Melissa (Paul), Letterkenny, Shane (Elaine), Perth, Australia and Pauric (Emma), Letterkenny and his loving grandchildren – Carraig, Iarlaithe, Donnchadh, Erin, Guy and Penelope.

He will be deeply regretted by his brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, cousins, relatives, neighbours and many friends.
