THE funeral will take place in St Joseph’s Church, Rathmullan tomorrow ( Saturday) of 106-year-old local woman Julia McAteer who died on New Year’s Day.
Julia was a resident at Nazareth House in Fahan for two years but was born and reared at Creeve, Rathmullan.
She lived alone outside Rathmullan in a tiny one-roomed house she called home for 104 years, 90 of these without running water or electricity.
Julia died peacefully at lunchtime. The wake took place at the home of her great grand-niece, Donna Deeney, 3 Iveagh Park, Greeysteel, Derry with Requiem Mass at 11am on St Joseph’s, Rathmullan. Julia was laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery.
Speaking to the Donegal News on Friday, Ms Deeney, said Julia had “lived a long and very content life”.
“She was a woman of simple needs, had an amazing faith and a fantastic sense of humour,” she said.
