FUNDRAISING calls have been reiterated this week in a bid to secure the future of a Donegal chapel.
St Columba’s Church is a small chapel located 10 minutes outside Letterkenny in Drumoghill, Manorcunningham.
Considered by many as the “heart” of Drumoghill’s bright, caring and connected local community for almost 200 years, the building fell into a state of dispair in recent times.
From First Holy Communions to Confirmations, marriages to deaths, one local parishioner said: “If the walls of Drumoghill Chapel could talk, they would tell our community’s story.”
However, due to the deterioration of the chapel, parishioners have been forced to attend Mass in their local Resource Centre for over a year.
Previously, Frank Morning and his son Joseph set up a GoFundMe Page to help relieve the finacial burden of the restoration.
However, as work begins to progress, funds begin to diminish and this week, Frank renewed his fundraising appeal.
“The work is progressing very well at the minute and the contractor is doing a very good job,” he said.
“There is still a good bit of work to do and there is still a bit of money needed to complete the job.
“If anybody would like to make a donation they can do so through the GoFundMe Page.
“I would like people to share the link with their friends and families all over the world because there are a lot of people in other countries who would like to contribute to this restoration.
“We are really looking forward to the chapel reopening again so we can have Mass, Christenings, First Communions, Confirmations and Weddings.
“Hopefully that will take place at some stage in 2025.”
