Fundraising bed push to help support local school girl’s upcoming treatment

By Dionne Meehan

FUNDRAISING efforts to assist a young school girl from Donegal, who is getting ready to travel to Holland for a bone marrow transplant, will continue throughout the weekend.

On Saturday, May 3, staff from Scoil Mhuire in Creeslough will take part in a fundraising bed push to raise vital funds for their sixth-class student, Cassie Sheridan.

Cassie, who was diagnosed with anaplastic large cell lymphoma at just ten-years-old, went through months of chemotherapy and a brief period of remission before relapsing in 2023.

Since then, Cassie has been undergoing treatment.

The next step in her care involves travelling to the Princess Maxima Centre in Holland for a bone marrow transplant, with her eldest brother, Michael, serving as her donor.

Following the success of last week’s fundraiser organised by St Michael’s GAA, staff from Scoil Mhuire will begin their bed push this Saturday at 11am, making their way from Carrigart to Creeslough.

An iDonate page has been set up to raise essential funds for the next phase of Cassie’s treatment.

Yesterday, a special charity event was also hosted by local businesses which brought local schools together in support of the brave young girl’s journey to recovery.

All proceeds raised went toward the fundraiser organised by Scoil Mhuire.

The businesses included Rosapenna Foot Golf, who kindly hosted children from Scoil Naomh Bríd Downings, Scoil Cholmcille Devlinreagh, Scoil Eoin Báiste, Carrigart, Mulroy College Milford, and PCC Falcarragh, and Goose and Gander, in Downings who provided delicious pizza.

All smiles as students tuck in to their pizza at Goose and Gander.

Those behind the fundraiser extended a special thank you to the participating schools for their enthusiasm and support.

They also thanked the local businesses who helped in organising the event.

“Heartfelt thanks also go to the Casey Family and to Christopher and Emma Healy for not only generously donating all proceeds from this event but for organising every detail beginning to end.

“It was a day that proved, once again, Donegal’s spirit of community is as strong as ever and that when we come together, we can help change a life,” a spokesperson for the fundraiser said.
