Fundraiser set up for destroyed Derrybeg church

A Go Fund Me  has been launched to help replace St. Mary’s Church,  Derrybeg.

On Easter Sunday the Parish of Gaoth Dobhair, along with many friends and visitors to the area, gathered in a church full to capacity to joyfully celebrate with hope the Easter liturgies of the Resurrection.

Sadly, the  parish is now in mourning. Their beloved Church, St. Mary’s in Derrybeg burned to the ground in the early hours of the Easter Monday morning. This is a deeply tragic event that strikes at the heart of their community. Their beautiful Church was not only a place of worship, but also a centre of light, life and love, of support, unity and hope for many.

The Gaoth Dobhair is  are a resilient community and will stand together to support one another in this moment of deep grief and sorrow. Mary Coyle is organising this fundraiser on behalf of Coiste Forbartha Dhobair.  Last week, Coiste Forbartha Dhobhair came second in the annual Glór na nGael  Competition and had won €5,000. They have agreed to donate this prize to the GoFundMe .   Donations can by paid through  Ionad Naomh Pádraig, Dore Facebook page and logging into the GoFundMe. Anyone not on line can give a donation to either Mary Coyle, Pierce Doherty, T.D., or Kieran Roarty,  Dunlewey.
