Fundraiser launched to support families of fatal St Johnston collision

An online fundraiser has been launched for the families of the victims of the fatal road traffic collision in St Johnston on Tuesday.

Daniel Cullen and Caoimhin Porter, both aged 18, died in the collision involving a car and a lorry on the R236 in the village at around 11.15pm.

Their funerals are to take place today and tomorrow.

The male driver of the car, also in his late teens, remains in the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast, where he is being treated for serious injuries.

A fundraiser has been set up by their neighbours, who were shocked by the news of the tragedy.

“We as a Shantallow community are devastated at the sudden tragedy that has happened involving three young men of our community.

“We have sadly lost two young men and one who is critically unwell in the Royal Hospital,” the fundraiser read.

“As neighbours of these young men we have decided to set up this page to help their families.”

There have been hundreds of donations and close to £10,000 raised so far. You can donate to the online fundraiser here.

Meanwhile, a road safety petition has also been launched following the tragedy.
