A FUNDRAISER launched to bring home a young Donegal woman who passed away in North Carolina has raised over $10,000.
Donegal native Leanne Stapleton passed away after she suffered a cardiac arrest just two days before her 40th birthday and was placed on life support for 14 days.
The mother of one had battled throughout her life with an asthmatic condition and was recently diagnosed with a serious heart condition.
Leanne was the beloved daughter of Susan Molloy of Kilclooney, near Ardara, and of Kevin Stapleton of Kerry, and was a mother to 12-year-old Ronan.
A go Fund Me page has since been set up to help bring Leanne’s remains home to Donegal and has raised $13,072.
Leanne is being brought home by the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust and in keeping with her wishes, she will be buried next to her grandmother Lila, in Donegal town.
Fundraiser organiser Margaret M Pelc said, “It is with deep regret that we report the untimely death of Leanne Stapleton.
“She has been a devoted single mother for many years to her 12-year-old son, Ronan, who survives her.
“The family is endeavouring to send Leanne back home to Ireland, for burial next to her grandmother Lila, in Donegal town.
“This is in keeping with Leanne’s wishes.
“The family would sincerely appreciate any financial support to deal with ongoing medical and legal expenses,” said Margaret.
