A leading Irish language adviser has said she is “deeply concerned” that funding cuts will threaten Irish language development in Letterkenny.
Bairbre Uí Chathail, of Líonra Leitir Ceainainn, is the co-ordinator of Letterkenny’s Pleanála Teanga – a five year plan funded by Foras na Gaeilge, for the promotion and development of the Irish language in the town.
She said she is “deeply concerned” about widespread cuts in funding announced by Foras na Gaeilge at the beginning of the month.
The cuts, which will amount to €817,945 nationwide, “will have major implications for our work with businesses, our summer camps, our Autumn festival, our youth clubs and much more,” said Ms Uí Chathail.
