IT has been confirmed that forest owners across Donegal will be issued €280,471.11 of annual income tax-free forestry premium payments for 2026.
Deputy Pat ‘the Cope’ Gallagher has welcomed today’s announcement by the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Martin Heydon TD.
The latest national payment run has delivered €280,471.11 to forest owners across Donegal, supporting 764.63 hectares of forestry in the county.
Pat ‘the Cope’ said the announcement represents a significant boost for Donegal’s rural economy:
“I warmly welcome the Minister’s announcement and the continued commitment to supporting forest owners. The €280,471 paid to Donegal landowners this week is a substantial and timely support for families who have invested in forestry. These annual premiums provide dependable income and reinforce the long‑term value of forestry to our county.”
Minister Heydon noted that the annual premiums, combined with establishment grants, are essential supports for maintaining and expanding Ireland’s forestry sector.
Pat ‘the Cope’ said these national supports align strongly with Donegal’s potential:
“Donegal is ideally placed to take advantage of the highest forestry premium rates ever offered. The strong uptake in Donegal shows the confidence local landowners have in forestry as a sustainable, long‑term investment.”
He also reminded Donegal forest owners that applications for 2026 forestry premiums remain open:
“Any landowner who has not yet applied can still do so online through the Department’s portal. Payments are being processed weekly, so I would encourage Donegal forest owners to submit their applications as soon as possible.”
Pat ‘the Cope’ concluded by reaffirming his support for the forestry sector:
“Forestry strengthens rural communities, supports biodiversity, and provides long‑term financial stability for landowners. I welcome this announcement and will continue to advocate for strong supports that benefit Donegal and the wider forestry sector.”
