The Government has today announced a grant of €15,000 for accommodation costs for those in immediate need of rehousing, due to defective blocks.
A further grant of €5,000 was also announced for storage costs.
These grants are being made available by Donegal County Council on the submission of relevant documentation.
Welcoming this announcement, Cllr. Jack Murray said it’s incredible news that those families, in most immediate need of rehousing, due to defective blocks, will have funding released in order to secure a safe roof over their heads.
“On this bitterly cold morning, it couldn’t be more blatant as to how important that is.
“Fair play to every single person involved in this victory.
“It could only fill you with confidence that this awful saga will be brought to a successful conclusion.
“Despite so many setbacks, obstacles and barriers, the people of this county remain resolute,” he said.
With two planned protests by defective block campaigners postponed in Carndonagh this week due to the closure of the Public Services Centre, campaigners were set to take the protest to Lifford next week.
Campaigner Paddy Diver has since called off the protest.
“The Government has come up trumps and they’re releasing the money for these emergency homes.
“This is a small victory with a rocky road ahead but the protest does not need to go ahead,” he said.
