Funding announced for Ballybofey and Letterkenny sports projects

THERE is good news for two Donegal sports projects which have been allocated €1.15 million between them in Government funding.

The Finn Harps-Donegal Community Stadium is to receive €693,550, while the Letterkenny Regional Sports Activity Hub at Carnamuggagh has been allocated €422,739.

The “top up” grant allocations were announced on Wednesday by the Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, Catherine Martin under the Large Scale Sport Infrastructure Fund (LSSIF).

Welcoming the announcement, Donegal minister, Charlie McConalogue, said: “These are two major projects for the Twin Towns and Letterkenny and will be of huge benefit to both communities when completed. These latest funding allocations will help both to progress.

“The first allocations under the SSIF were announced in January 2020 with €86.4 million subsequently awarded to 33 different projects.

“As part of that programme, the Finn Harps stadium was allocated €4.7 million, with the Letterkenny sports hub getting €750,000. This additional funding is being provided in response to delays experienced by grantees arising from the pandemic and construction inflation,” the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine added.
