Full Capacity Protocol implemented in Emergency Ward

The Emergency Department at Letterkenny University Hospital is extremely busy today.

The hospital has admitted a significant number of ill patients recently, many of whom remain in the ED awaiting a bed.

A hospital spokesperson said: “We apologise for the distress or inconvenience caused to patients and their families who are experiencing long wait times.”

The Full Capacity Protocol has been implemented and all efforts continue to be made to identify patients who are appropriate for discharge.

Other actions underway in the hospital to alleviate the waiting times for patients requiring hospital admission include additional reviews and deferral of elective non-urgent procedures.

“We are committed to treating everyone who presents at our ED but we do so strictly in order of medical priority and apologise for the long wait times currently,” said the spokesperson.
