Frustration for Rovers against Mervue in FAI Junior Cup

Letterkenny Rovers 1-3 Mervue United

There was frustration for Letterkenny Rovers in Leckview Park this evening as they were knocked out of the FAI Junior Cup by Mervue United.

Rovers got off to a great start with BJ Banda scoring a beauty after three minutes.

However, Mervue soon found their feet and a brace from Aaron Neary had them 2-1 ahead at the break.

Mervue extended their lead after the restart when Mark O’Halloran’s free-kick deflected off Aidy Delap and went all the way to the net.

Rovers then have a chance to eat into their deficit when they were awarded a penalty in the 84th minute but Banda, who won the spot-kick, saw his effort saved.

Healy was then sent off in injury-time for a second yellow card but the Galway side held on to reach the sixth round.
