Frustration for Harps as Derry grab late draw

Finn Harps 1-1 Derry City

There was huge frustration for Finn Harps in Ballybofey tonight as they missed out on all three points against local rivals Derry City.

It looked like Harps were going to claim a crucial victory when Ethan Boyle headed to the net in the 84th minute.

However, Boyle was then penalised for handling the ball in his own box three minutes later, and Jamie McGonigle made no mistake from the spot.

Neither side could find a winner in the remaining seven minutes and the game ended in a draw.

While it was disappointing not to hold on for a win, a share of the spoils does bring Harps out of the relegation play-off spot on goal difference ahead of Waterford, who lost to Shamrock Rovers.

Harps are back in action next Friday when they travel to face St Patrick’s Athletic.
