FRUSTRATION is continuing to grow regarding the lack of progress on the new water treatment plant in Falcarragh.
Cathaoirleach of the Glenties Municipal District Michael McClafferty said these delays, which could last years, will continue until a foreshore license is granted.
The independent Councillor claimed that the delays, which have now been ongoing for over 18 months, are down to a lack of political will from government.
“If the political will was there this could be solved very easily,” said Cllr McClafferty.
“I do believe if this was in Dublin, or any of the big cities, then this wouldn’t be happening. It’s just because we are in rural Donegal the attitude is different,” he added.
The state issued foreshore license which is required before any work can commence on the area between the shore and the mainland falls under the responsibility of the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Charlie McConalogue.
The Falcarragh based Councillor has written to Minister McConalogue demanding answers regarding the delays with the Falcarragh water treatment plant.
This comes after two recent meetings with Uisce Eireann, where Cllr McClafferty raised the same concerns, and in response it was revealed that in one situation an offshore licence took over two and a half years to be issued.
Cllr McClafferty said Falcarragh simply cannot wait that long and that these delays must be addressed immediately.
