From punch bags to toy bags: Eunan runs another toy appeal

AS the Christmas season approaches each year, Ballybofey boxing coach Eunan Devenney runs an annual toy appeal in Donegal.

This year will mark the 23rd year of his appeal and Eunan hopes he can ‘get over the line’ once again.

As people begin the scramble for Christmas shopping and decorating, Eunan hopes they will remember those who are less fortunate.

He aims to donate a bag of toys for 50 children. These children are in social care in Donegal so it’s truly an excellent local cause.

The appeal is aimed at boys and girls aged 1-17 years old.

Eunan will be informed of the age and gender of the children who are to benefit from his collection, and the toys are gathered to suit.

Eunan plans to finish collecting the toys around December 10.

Along with his three sons he delivers the toys to Donegal Town on December 15.

People are asked to donate toys, gifts or vouchers.

Eunan has praised local supporters such as Lafferty Buses who drive him and the bags of toys to Donegal Town every year completely free of charge.

He highlighted that the people from Donegal and beyond have been so generous over the years.

“Without their unbelievable generosity it would not be possible” he said.

There are regular donors each year such as former professional boxer and I’m a Celebrity star, Barry McGuigan.

Eunan urges people to get involved this year and help Donegal children wake up to a gift on Christmas day.

He takes inspiration from his own mother who he remembers always made Christmas so special for him and his seven siblings.

He reminds people that these children are at an impressionable age and this appeal can make Christamas special for them and make a real difference in their lives.

If you would like to donate to this worthwhile cause you can call Eunan Devenney on 087 768 4073 and arrange a collection.
