Mali, the Bernese Mountain Dog that was missing for two weeks is safe and sound after being stranded on a cliff in Donegal.
The resilient dog, who belongs to a German family, became a local hero after a miraculous rescue by a fishing boat near Arranmore Island.
Mali visited Scoil an Aingil Choimheádaí, Keadue in Burtonport to meet two of the students who were part of her rescue team.
Aoibheann and Róisín Ní Leathlobhair, both students at the small Gaeltacht school, were on board the boat that rescued Mali
Mali disappeared from her owners, Sarah Recinos Ralda, her husband David, and their four children, while they were visiting Arranmore Island in the middle of August.
High winds had spooked the beloved pet, leading her to bolt.
Despite an exhaustive search involving locals, tourists, and drones, Mali remained missing for two long weeks.
As days passed, hope began to fade, and her owners, who had been staying near Kincasslagh, were bracing themselves for the worst.
While passing the cliffs near Arranmore, a fishing boat captained by John Paul Baska of North West Charters made a remarkable discovery.
Perched 200 feet above the crashing waves, Mali was found stranded on a narrow ledge, her lead entangled in the rocks. She had been stuck there, unable to move, for the entire duration of her disappearance.
The video of Mali’s rescue, shared by North West Charters with the caption “That’s Him Found and Saved,” captured the joyous moment when the dog was finally freed and returned to safety.
