A MOTHER has urged parents and guardians to be vigilant after her daughter and friend experienced a frightening incident in Letterkenny.
The woman was speaking out after an upsetting experience in Letterkenny Shopping Centre on Sunday afternoon last, involving her 17-year-old daughter and her friend.
Taking to popular social media page, ‘Letterkenny Babies’, the woman told of how her daughter and friend were approached by a woman who told them she was concerned for them after overhearing a man on the phone.
“While they were sitting on a bench inside the shopping centre, talking amongst themselves, a young woman approached them, saying, ‘I don’t mean to alarm you girls but there is a man outside Euro Giant on the phone. I overheard him say, ‘yeah, they’re still sitting there,’ while looking in your direction,” the mother wrote on Letterkenny Babies Facebook page.
The woman also reported the incident to a security guard, who stayed close to the girls until someone arrived to collect them. The mum praised the actions of the woman involved.
“I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to this kind and vigilant woman for looking out for my daughter and her friend. Her quick thinking and concern made all the difference in ensuring their safety. I also want to sincerely thank the security guard for handling the situation with such calm professionalism, especially when the girls were understandably shaken.”
She has urged all parents and guardians to be vigilant.
“I just want to make parents/guardians aware of the importance of reminding all teenagers and young adults to be aware of their surroundings and, whenever possible, avoid being alone in public places and non public places.”
The mum was advised by admin of Letterkenny Babies to provide a description of the man to gardaí.
