THE Friends of Letterkenny University Hospital say they are very glad to support the CRI +ICAL Emergency Medical Response (CEMR) service, a voluntary service driven locally by Dr Gerry Lane.
The CEMR was previously known as the Air Ambulance Service.
The purpose of CEMR is to give critical, lifesaving medical care in the community in advance of the arrival of the National Ambulance service on site.
In 2022, CMER responded to 120 missions in county Donegal, divided equally among medical emergencies, cardiac arrests, and trauma.
The Friends were only too happy to respond to a request for funding from CEMR for the LUCAS automatic Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation kit at a cost of €15,000.
This equipment provides automated CPR to patients who have had a cardiac arrest until an ambulance arrives.
Dr Lane is one of 12 volunteer doctors nationwide and primarily rural, who help with the CEMR service.
