Friends form guard of honour in memory of Mairead

Hundreds of staff turned out as a mark of respect for their late colleague Mairead Murray.

 
DOCTORS, nurses and other members of staff gathered at the front gates of Letterkenny University Hospital on Tuesday morning to pay their respects as the funeral cortege of their colleague Mairead Murray slowly made its way to St Eunan’s Cathedral.
 
Mrs Murray (née Gallagher) lived at Listillion with her husband Patrick. Formerly Sleeghan, Derrybeg, Gweedore, she was the daughter of the late Owenie Rua and the late Sarah Gallagher.
 
Mrs Murray and her husband Pat both worked in Unifi before taking up employment in Letterkenny University Hospital. Mairead worked as a domestic while Pat is a theatre porter. 
 
She was diagnosed with cancer in January and she passed away at the Donegal Hospice surrounded by her family. She was 59 years old.
 
A well known and highly respected member of staff, the guard of honour at the hospital gates was led by Mr Sean Murphy, Hospital manager.

Requiem Mass took place in St Eunan’s Cathedral at noon on Tuesday with interment afterwards to New Leck Cemetery. The chief celebrant was Fr Gerard Cunningham, PP Glenties, assisted by Fr Martin Chambers, LUH Chaplain, Fr Donnachadh O’Baoill, Derrybeg, Fr Martin Collum, Rathmullan, Fr Paddy Dunne, Kilmacrennan and Fr Kevin Gillespie, Church of the Irish Martyrs.
 
She is survived by her husband Patrick, two sons Gerard and Paul. her daughter Sarah, daughters-in-law Holly and Michelle, son-in-law Mel, six grandchildren Roisín, Eoin, Alesha, Lauren, Saorlaith and Caoimhe, her three brothers Danny, Owenie and Hughie (all Gweedore), sisters Bríd, Sarah, Anne, (Gweedore) and Mary (Kells, Co Meath), other relatives and a wide circle of family friends.
