Fresh council moves to retain Malin coastguard

THERE has been fresh impetus this week in the growing campaign to retain Malin Head Coastguard Station.

Donegal County Council is seeking urgent talks with the Minister for Transport, Mr Leo Varadkar, to retain the busy station following the publication of the ‘Fisher Report’, which suggested its closure along with the Valentia station in Kerry.

The news comes as a high powered delegation from the SDLP travelled to Dublin on Wednesday, to meet with the Dáil’s Transport Committee to pitch for the retention of the centre.
