Amber Barrett is on the move after leaving Standard Liege to join French club Strasbourg.
It’s a good move for the Republic of Ireland international as Strasbourg are currently sixth in the Première Ligue.
The Milford woman confirmed that she had left Standard Liege on social media earlier today.
“One of the most difficult things I’ve had to write. After 2.5 season in Standard Liege I have decided to leave the club to pursue another challenge for myself and my career. I leave with nothing other than a deep sense of gratitude, adoration, appreciation and respect for the club and what it has done for me.
“I arrived in Standard low in confidence and had a huge amount of doubt about my capabilities as a player. That quickly changed here. Tough coaching, arm around the shoulder energy and a team that oozed a never say die attitude, I knew I was in the right place.
“I had an opportunity to work with and play with fantastic footballers, who taught me so much on a day to day basis. But, more importantly, they were even better people. We laughed, we cried, we endured defeat, we obsessed over winning and we celebrated an unbelievable cup victory that gave me my first piece of silverware as a professional footballer.
“I want to sincerely thank @standard_femina , the club as a whole in times of difficultly stands firm and continues to strive for better in the Women’s department. Thank you Ingrid, you have showed us these last 8 months what the club means to you.
“To all the coaching staff who I am grately indebted to. Stephane, Raph, Charlie, Carlos, Geoff, Vanity, Sana and of course Joachim.
“To all the medical staff and the background people who do all the work but the smallest amount of attention. Thank you for every single thing.
“To all the players, thank you. Everyone I have played with these last few years have showed me what it means to play for such a club. You celebrated my successes more than your own and that is how I knew you were genuine teammates. Thank you for the banter the celebrations the back of the bus discussions and the acknowledgment that Irish people make every team more enjoyable.
“Finally, to @claireor17 and @aoife_colvill . I still haven’t found the words to do you two justice for everything over the last 2.5 years and 1.5 years. You have been there at my lowest points and you have celebrated my victories. This journey would have been nothing without you. I love you both.
“Merci Standard. Forever Rouche.”
