A renewed call has been made for the reinstatement of a full-time Garda officer in Kilmacrennan.
Speaking at the latest meeting of the Joint Policing Committee, Councillor Michael McBride said there has been a rise in minor crime in the area.
He added that promises have been made previously that a full-time officer would be dedicated to the village but to date that has not happened.
“We have been told in the past that it would happen and that we would have a full-time guard in the station. It is something people raise with me regularly.
“There is a lot of petty vandalism going on and the general feeling in the village is that we need an officer back on a full-time basis.
“Coming into the summer and with the rise in staycations we had last year, Kilmacrennan is a very busy vein. We need a specific plan on this because we have been waiting a long time,” Councillor McBride said.
Superintendent Goretti Sheridan said that while it was not something she could comment directly on, it was something she would raise again with her colleagues and superiors.
