Freemasonry’s Donegal history highlighted

THE Provincial Grand Librarian for the Province of Antrim and Curator of the Freemason Museum in Belfast visited Letterkenny on Wednesday to share some of the history of the organisation with the County Museum.

Right Worshipful Brother Robert T Bashford met with Curator Caroline Carr to discuss an exhibition of ceremonial organisations which is due to open in September.

Mr Bashford spoke to the Donegal News about his work as Editor of the Irish Lodge of Research and the website he set up 12 months ago to inform people about Freemasonry.

He brought along documents and books covering the history of Freemasonry in Ireland in order to discuss what was required for the forthcoming exhibition.

Contrary to popular perceptions that Freemasonry is a highly secretive organisation, Mr Bashford spoke openly about the organisation and its long history here in Donegal. He pointed out that there is a wealth of information about the organisation readily available.
