THE Donegal screening of a film following a group of Palestinian and Scottish runners as they train for the Palestine and Edinburgh marathons in the occupied West Bank has raised €1,200.
‘Freedom to Run’ was shown in the Gallowglass Community Centre in Milford on Friday last, co-hosted with Milford & District Resource Centre and the Donegal branch of the Ireland for Palestine Solidarity Campaign.
The event captivated audiences and received overwhelmingly positive feedback from attendees.
The Gallowglass Community Centre was at capacity with film enthusiasts and members of the local community wishing to show solidarity with the people of Palestine.
‘Freedom to Run’ documents an exchange project between two groups of runners, one Scottish, one Palestinian, who participate in the Palestine and Edinburgh marathons, the marathons become a framing device to learn about the Israeli occupation.
Director, Cairsti Russell was dedicated to creating innovative and thought-provoking film that inspired audiences, with a focus on storytelling and excellence in artistic integrity, pushing the boundaries of film and exploring the human experience while raising awareness of the human condition in all its complexity.
This film did just that by informing and educating viewers of the realities of occupation and apartheid through a simple, human narrative lens.
With 70 people in attendance, €1,200 was raised for Medical Aid for Palestinians.
A spokesperson said: “Sincere thank you to all in attendance, who supported such a worthy cause, we were thrilled with the incredible turnout.”
