A LETTERKENNY company, www.town.ie, is launching a free website initiative for National Schools Donegal.
As funding is restricted for primary schools, it is offering an opportunity for businesses to support their local school while also promoting, growing and developing their own business.
By ensuring every National School has its own website, this, the company says, encourages IT awareness for the children as they learn to interact with the web in a safe, controlled environment. It also provides parents easy access to school information and policies.
The initiative is simple: If four businesses affiliated to a local school become a member of Town.ie, the school will be awarded with a complimentary website.
Those four businesses will be given full accreditation in helping provide this website.
The company has successfully piloted the initiative with Glencovitt National School, Ballybofey, (www.glencovittschool.town.ie).
Town.ie was launched in 2009 with the mission to support local communities commercially and socially and strive to improve through the encouragement of commercial activity and the support of local organisations.
The CEO of Town.ie, Mr Niall Harding, sees this initiative as a perfect example of bringing community and commerce together.
“At reasonable rates, the spend by all the National Schools in County Donegal for websites would exceed €350,000,” he said.
“National Schools do not have the necessary resources to provide a website and this is the issue being addressed by this initiative. Town.ie is applying €91,000 of it’s own resources, ensuring each National School in Donegal will have a free website, which will be built, hosted and maintained free of charge by Town.ie.”
When the national roll-out is complete, this will be a saving in excess of €6.5 million to the State, the National Schools and parents. Town.ie will have applied €1.7 million of it’s own resources.
Mr Harding and his team are confident that this initiative will not only deliver great benefits to local communities, but will also inspire the imagination of others to develop initiatives, the results of which would deliver benefits locally, far beyond the costs involved.
The launch will take place on Thursday, Novermber 5, in The Mount Errigal Hotel, Letterkenny, at 5.30 pm. All local businesses, schools and Boards of Management are encouraged to attend.
