THIS weekend, Friday 24th and Saturday 25th, sees yet another weekend of traditional music in McIntyre’s bar Dunkineely, with the 2nd Dunkineely Traditional Music Weekend.
Established last year as the inaugural event of the Coiste Cultúrtha Dhún Cheann Fhaolaidh, the traditional weekend is a relaxed celebration of music, stories and song.
This is leading on from a very successful series of concerts that have been held in the town over the past few months.
Kicking off the weekend will be a concert on Friday night with traditional music legends Gerry ‘Banjo’ O’Connor and Manus Lunny.
Gerry is regarded as one of the top banjo players in the world at present, while Manus Lunny is a household name in the world of traditional music, both as a performer and record producer.
Also performing will be Tim and Marie McHugh, a brother and sister, flute and fiddle duo from Newport in Co. Mayo.
Tim has recently won the highly coveted ‘Bonn Óirr’ from RTE Raidió na Gaeltachta, while Marie is in demand as a performer at various events all over Ireland.
The concert starts at 8 30pm and as with all the other concerts in Dunkineely. Admission is absolutely free and the weekend is supported by the Arts Council.
