INDIVIDUALS and groups are being sought to take part in a free ‘storytelling through theatre’ workshop in south Donegal next weekend.
Smashing Times Theatre Company is seeking individuals or an adult community group in Donegal to take part in workshop in Ballyshannon next Sunday.
The workshop uses theatre games and exercises to explore personal memories and experiences of people in border counties, North and South.
No experience of drama or storytelling is necessary and the workshops are free and open to all.
This event is part of The Memory Project which is run by Smashing Times in partnership with Corrymeela Community, Highwire Productions and in association with CAIN (Conflict Archive on the Internet) and the University of Ulster INCORE International Conflict Research Institute.
The project is funded through the EU’s PEACE III Programme, managed by the Special EU Programmes Body.
The focus is on discovering and sharing our stories. The participative drama workshop provides an opportunity for people to tell their stories and experiences of growing up or living in the border counties.
The workshop aims to acknowledge different experiences and discuss participants’ shared hopes and vision for the future.
The workshops are conducted by a professional artist from Smashing Times and are open to all including individuals, organisations, artists, community and youth leaders, teachers and all those interested in using the arts to work in community settings.
Participants do not need to have any previous knowledge of drama. The storytelling workshop requires active participation in theatre exercises and improvisations.
As part of this project, Smashing Times is making a television documentary about their work. The television crew will film part of the workshop and may want to talk to some participants.
