AS cybercrime, scams and everyday criminal activity continue to rise across the country, Donegal Centre for Independent Living (DCIL) is taking proactive steps to support the local community by hosting a free Crime Prevention Workshop, open to all.
The workshop will take place on Tuesday, February 18, from 12 noon to 1.30pm at DCIL, Ballymacool, Letterkenny, and will be delivered by local gardaí, bringing practical, trusted crime prevention advice directly to the Donegal community.
This crime prevention workshops aims to reduce crime by equipping people with practical strategies to improve personal safety, protect their homes, and safeguard personal information.
This session will focus on key areas such as home and personal security, cyber safety, scam awareness, and the safe use of everyday technology, while also highlighting the importance of community awareness and looking out for one another.
With a growing number of crimes now taking place online, particular emphasis will be placed on cybercrime and scams.
Attendees will learn how criminals operate, how to recognise warning signs, and what steps to take if they believe they may have been targeted. Advice on personal safety and using technology safely will also form part of the workshop.
DCIL is a charity organisation proudly serving Donegal since 1999 and is the county’s leading provider of Personal Assistant Services for people with disabilities.
The organisation is guided by the philosophy of Independent Living, which supports equal rights, choice, and opportunities for people with disabilities, including access to education, employment, transport, and full participation in social and community life.
While the workshop will be especially beneficial for people with disabilities, DCIL stresses that everyone is susceptible to falling victim to increasingly sophisticated crimes, regardless of age or background.
For this reason, the event is open to the entire community.
Speaking ahead of the event, DCIL CEO, Rosaleen Doherty said: “By improving awareness, confidence and security, we can help people feel safer in their daily lives — both offline and online.”
The event is free to attend, reflecting DCIL’s ongoing commitment to inclusion and community wellbeing.
Anyone wishing to attend is asked to confirm their attendance by contacting DCIL on 074 9128945.
