Free bus from Donegal for Dublin water protest

CAN’T Pay Won’t Pay have announced that a free bus will be available for anyone who wants to join the anti-water charges protest tomorrow (Wednesday) but is unable to afford the cost of going to Dublin for the day.

Cllr Micheal Cholm Mac Giolla Easbuig said, “We already have three buses going from the west, the south and north Leitrim and have subsidised the cost, so that we are providing the cheapest way for people to get to the protest on Wednesday, but we were hearing from a large number of people who very much wanted to be part of the protest but who just could not afford even the subsidised fare. We have taken the decision therefore to put on a fourth bus with no charge to accomodate everybody. We do not want anyone to be left out of this vital protest.”

“We have consistently maintained that the water charges are unaffordable for many who are struggling to get by and we want to give those people the opportunity to have their voice heard in Dublin outside Dail on Wednesday. Alongside them will be many others who ‘won’t pay’ as an act of social solidarity. Our decision to put on a free bus is in line with this approach. It is the very basis of the boycott campaign. We have no time for those who voice fine words of opposition to the charges but refuse to back the boycott campaign.”

“Can’t Pay Won’t Pay are not going to Dublin simply to say we are against water charges, we are going to give a message of defiance to the government that no matter what they do, we will not pay their water charges. We intend to build a massive boycott of the charges when they start to bill us in January.”

The bus will leave Annagry at 6.30 and travels via Letterkenny with pickups en route. There is no charge but booking is essential. Contact 086 3850948 for more information or go to the Can’t Pay Won’t Pay Facebook page atwww.facebook.com/cantpaywontpay.
