Fr Paddy Dunne to proceed with move to Ballyshannon

THE campaign in Kilmacrennan to prevent Parish Priest Fr Paddy Dunne being moved to Ballyshannon has come to an end as the popular priest decided he will do what Bishop Alan McGuckian has requested.

The Donegal News can confirm that those organising last Friday night’s vigil in Kilmacrennan and the petition to retain their much-loved priest, has now ended.

Speaking to the Donegal News today, organiser of the vigil and petition Alan Sweeney, confirmed Fr Paddy was going ahead with the transfer as per the clerical changes announced just over a week ago.

“It was Fr Paddy’s decision at the end of the day. He told us to just leave it alone as he is going and has no choice. He gave his life to God. It is very, very sad. He was a great man for the parish and is leaving a wonderful legacy behind him,” Mr Sweeney said.

Fr Dunne was contacted by the Donegal News, but declined to comment.
