Fr Eddie Deeney to celebrate 90th birthday

A Donegal missionary priest will mark his 90th birthday tonight by launching his new book, The Bits and Pieces of Everyday, in Rathmullan.

Fr Eddie Deeney, who was ordained in 1961, is set to mark the milestone with a special gathering in the St Vincent De Paul Centre at 8pm.

The community are invited to celebrate Fr Eddie, who spent most of his career as a missionary priest in Africa with the Society of African Missions (SMA).

In his younger years, Fr Eddie attended St Joseph’s National School in Rathmullan before progressing to St Eunan’s College in Letterkenny.

After completing his education, he worked mainly in Nigeria and South Africa, before working in SMA parishes in London.

In his new book, Fr Eddie writes about his various experiences that were part and parcel of his missionary journey.

Those attending the special celebration on Saturday night are asked, at Fr Eddie’s request, to make a charitable donation in lieu of gifts.

Donations will then be shared between the St Vincent de Paul Society and the Ranga House Project for Albino children in Tanzania.
