FINN Harps defender Keith Cowan has been hit with a four-match suspension following his red card in last week’s one-all draw against Wexford Youths at Finn Park.

Cowan was dismissed for his part in an incident with Wexford player Danny Fulong just before half-time. Having served an automatic one-match ban on Saturday night for the game against Longford Town, Cowan will now miss the League games against Waterford United and Shamrock Rovers B as well as the EA Sports League Cup second round clash with Galway FC.

“Keith has got a total of four matches – and that is with us making a plea as well,” Harps manager Ollie Horgan confirmed.
“We felt that it was very, very harsh. If he went and did something a hell of a lot worse he mightn’t have got four matches. We will miss Keith.

“I spoke to Keith and he wasn’t cute enough. he is out for the next month. In this League, at this level, when you’re not cute enough you get punished. They need to stand up and learn fairly quickly.

“We’re disappointed with the suspensions. We have spoken about that – about our discipline on and off the pitch.”
Cowan’s place at the heart of Harps’ defence was taken by new signing Caoimhin Bonner on Saturday night, the Derry man making his first start for the club since his arrival.

Horgan said: “Caoimhin is a great lad. I knew him before from the Ulster Senior League and the Under-19s. He’s committed and there is no fear in him, which is what we like. He will play a big part in the season.”

Harps will also be without Tommy Bonnar for their game against Waterford on Friday night because of a suspension owing to the midfielder having accumulated four bookings.
