FORMER Donegal TD Paddy Harte will be laid to rest on Thursday following Requiem Mass in St Eunan’s Church, Raphoe.
Mr Harte died yesterday (Monday) and tributes from across the political world have been paid to him.
Speaking this morning, Mayor of Donegal,Gerry McMonagle said Paddy Harte had been a committed public servant throughout his long political career.
“During his time as both a Councillor and a TD for Donegal North East, Paddy was heavily involved in cross-community work and reconciliation efforts on both sides of the border,” Gerry McMonagle said.
“Similarly, Paddy also made great efforts to ensure that the contributions made by Irish people who fought and died during the First World War were acknowledged and commemorated.
“Needless to say, while Paddy may have harbored considerably different political views to my own, it’s only right that I nonetheless acknowledge all that he achieved during his lifetime and career in politics.
“Paddy was a committed Public representative and dedicated much of his life to public service. Today, my thoughts and sympathies go to the entire Harte family and indeed all who knew him – may he rest in peace.”
Paddy Harte’s remains will repose at his late residence until Thursday. Funeral from there at 11.20am going to St Eunan’s Church, Raphoe, for noon Requiem Mass with burial afterward in adjoining cemetery.
