There were celebrations in Rathmullan last week – and some money raised for a good cause into the bargain – following a unique and hugely successful charity swim.
Former Olympic swimmer Kevin Williamson swam from Rathmullan Beach to Inch Island Beach and back again (3.7km) in 1 hour, 23 minutes 14 seconds.
Kevin, who has close ties with Rathmullan, was accompanied on the return leg by his sister Mary. What an achievement and according to the organisers, the record is now firmly set!
At sea support was provided by Teddy Russell and John Gallagher.
All donations and sponsorship on the day were in aid of the RNLI Lifeboats with over €725 collected to date. The fund will remain open at the White Harte Bar for another few weeks.
This is just the first of Kevin’s Swim Challenges – he says there are plans afoot for other bigger and better events in the near future.
