A moving tribute has been paid to former Finn Harps and Derry City player Mark Farren on the tenth anniversary of his death.
The Greencastle native passed away on February 3, 2016, aged 33, after a battle with cancer.
Mark was diagnosed with having a benign brain tumour in 2008 and was forced to retire from football.
However, in 2011 he returned to play for Derry and went on to surpass Liam Coyle as the club’s all-time leading goalscorer.
Unfortunately, the cancer returned, and he was diagnosed with having a grade four brain tumour.
A massive fundraising campaign was launched to help him undergo revolutionary treatment in Mexico, and he had surgery in August 2015.
In a tribute online this morning, Derry City Football Club shared a photo of Mark Farren with the words: “10 years without Mark Farren.
“On this day in 2016 we lost our record goalscorer, a gentleman and a club legend.
“Rest in peace Mark.”
