THE resounding success of Football Special’s limited edition sour beer has resulted in stocks flying off the shelves throughout Donegal.
Brewed in County Kildare, the collaboration between Football Special and Trouble Brewing has appeared to have gone down a treat with beer buffs.
Originally created in the 1940’s in a bid to celebrate the successes of the Swilly Rovers Football Team, Football Special was invented to be a non-alcoholic celebratory drink used to fill the cup.
As the business grew, so did the variety of flavours as banana, pineapple and cream soda were added to the
mix.
After years of being a much loved soft drink, recently the opportunity arose to work in collaboration with Trouble Brewing.
Jumping at the opportunity, Football Special began delving into the ale market.
Describing their creation, Marketing Associate, Izzy Williams said the beer is a “sour” ale.
“It is a bit different, one that you don’t really see a lot.
“Although it is quite sour, the Football Special in it takes the sour edge off,” she said.
Despite this being a limited edition run of the new beer, Izzy said the team will definitely be producing more in the future.
“We have just been inundated with messages from people pretty much all over the place asking where they can buy it.
“We have had messages from people in Waterford, Belfast etc. and the response has been really good,” he said.
With all stocks distributed at the minute, those curious to try the beer need to move fast.
Football Special Sour Beer is available in all Kernans, Kelly’s Mountain Top, Supervalu Buncrana and Whoriskeys in Ramelton while stocks last.
