Football Special hits the shelves in Lidl from today

By Rebecca Crockett

FOOTBALL Special will no longer be Donegal’s best-kept secret as the popular Ramelton soft drink hits the shelves in over 200 Lidl stores across Ireland today.

The beloved craft soda will be available nationwide as part of Lidl’s Kickstart Supplier Development Programme.

It allows small and medium local producers the chance to gain a permanent listing in the retailer, providing an opportunity to considerably grow the local business.

To celebrate the launch, Football Special is running a competition to win a year’s supply of Football Special.

To enter all you need to do is describe the flavour of the drink, which is more difficult than it sounds, according to Managing Director Seamus McDaid.

“We’re always asked, ‘What does Football Special taste like?’ so, we wanted to give everyone the opportunity to tell us what they think it tastes like,” he said.

“We’re looking for people to get creative with their responses – our favourite answer will win a year’s supply of Football Special!”

Entrants will be able to find QR codes on Football Special bottles in Lidl to submit their answers.

You’ll also be able to find the popular Exotic Pineapple and American Cream Soda iterations of the drink.

Football Special has been quenching thirsts since the 1940s as a way to celebrate the highs and lows of Swilly Rovers, the local Ramelton football club.

Four generations on and still family-owned, the drinks company may well be entering a new era of success.

Customers can find Football Special in Lidl Stores until November 27.

The winner of the competition will be announced on Football Special’s social media pages on November 1.
