Flood plain infill blamed for worst flooding

A LETTERKENNY councillor has blamed the unauthorised infilling of land on the outskirts of the town for some of the worst flooding in the area for more than half a century.
Independent Town Councillor, Tom Crossan, also claimed the combination of spring tides and heavy rainfaill on Tuesday meant the River Swilly came very close to breaching its banks and flooding the new retail parks.
Cllr Crossan, who owns six acres of land at Conwal, said the infilling of land in the area resulted in the main Letterkenny to Churchill road being flooded on Wednesday morning, for the first time in almost 60 years.
