FLAIR APPARENT: The best fashion podcasts

If I’m not working or talking to someone, then it’s very likely I’m listening to a podcast. I love
learning about the world while I’m doing another task, like driving, cooking or cleaning. It feels
like a super-efficient use of my time, you could say I’m a podcast addict.

There are loads of different podcast platforms and probably millions of podcasts out there on every subject you can imagine, (and quite a few that you’d never in your wildest dreams imagine). Here’s some of my favourite podcasts about fashion.

Dirty Laundry
Former 2FM DJ Tara Stewart explores the world of sustainable fashion by interviewing different
people involved in the fashion industry. Tara finds out how clothing manufacturing is damaging
the planet and talks to people who are looking at how big brands are approaching sustainability.
This podcast is full of interesting information and lots of great tips on everything from how to
shop sustainably to how to look after your clothes so they last longer.

Wardrobe Crisis
Hosted by Vogue Australia’s first sustainability editor, Clare Press, this podcast has been
phenomenally successful. That may in part be due to the celebrity guests, or it could be Press’s
down to earth and non-judgmental approach. The Wardrobe Crisis podcast focuses more on
solutions than problems, with conversations about sustainable manufacturing, the circular
economy and ethical businesses. You might come to this podcast for the content, but you’ll stay
for Clare who is humble, warm and vulnerable.

Dress Fancy
This is a podcast about dressing up, (so it’s my favourite fashion – related podcast). Author
Lucy Clayton speaks to designers, artists, experts, writers, activists and of course, the dresser
uppers themselves. This show explores the way we dress, in all its creative, sequinned, and
chaotic glory. Did you know that Drag played an important role in Prisoner of War camps? What
possessed that guy to dress as a budget Viking when he stormed the Capitol? And why are lots
of people deciding to live as mermaids in 2021? From plague masks to plastic tiaras, kitchen
table to couture salon, ballroom to battlefield; this podcast covers a lot of ground while also
being charming, funny, and eccentric.

Articles of Interest
Covering a broad range of concepts including the rise of casual wear, the environmental
impact of the textile industry and why womenswear doesn’t have pockets this podcast makes
fashion fascinating.
The podcast format is akin to investigative journalism, using characters
dead and alive, to weave together highly entertaining episodes about famous mannequins, or
the story behind plaid.
The first season of Articles of Interest was named a best podcast of the year by the BBC, New York Magazine, and the New Yorker.
