FLAIR APPARENT: Spring clean and support charity

It’s the time of year where the days are getting a little longer and the sun a little brighter. Around this time lots of people do a Spring clean, to get their houses ready for Easter.

The tradition of a Spring Clean goes back as far as Biblical times and is thought to have originated with a Jewish custom of preparing the house for the Spring feast of Passover.

Whatever the origins, it’s definitely a great excuse for a clear out and a clean out. If you’re doing some Spring cleaning please keep in mind local charity shops to donate your unwanted items to. Many charity shops are experiencing an increase in demand for their services and a decrease in the amount of donations.

“We’ve seen a huge drop in donations in the last two months” says Irish Wheelchair Association Charity Shop Manager Katrina Gordon. “We’re busier than we’ve ever been in terms of customers, but the lack of donations is really worrying. Lots of local people rely on us for basic things like blankets and kid’s clothes.”

With other charity shops reporting a similar drop in donations, it’s a great time to consider donating unwanted items.

Here’s a breakdown of the local charity shops and what they will accept. (No charity shop accepts dirty duvets or pillows.)

If you live outside of Letterkenny call your nearest charity shop to find out what they will and won’t accept. Many charity shops will also arrange collection of donations if transport is an issue.
