FLAIR APPARENT: Comparing facial suncreams

With a sunny spell upon us it’s time to start thinking about protecting the face and neck from the many dangers of the sun. Sunscreen will not only protect you from skin cancer, it’s also one of the best anti-aging products available.

This last week I’ve been trying out different facial sunscreens in order to give you a run down of what some of the best-known brands have to offer.

As a sidebar – I’m yet to find a sunscreen that doesn’t cause my mascara to stick to it (or a mascara that is sunscreen-proof) so if anyone knows the trick of how to wear sunscreen and mascara at the same time – please do let me know.

Elave Sensitive Care

Elave Sun SPF 50

Made by Gardiner Family Apothecary, this sunscreen is an oil-free formula, so it’s not shiny on your face. It looks thick but applies easily and a little goes a long way. I’ve been using this on my face all year and I love it. It doesn’t clog up your pores or give you spots from using it regularly either, which is a big bonus. Elave gets extra points for being Irish made, cruelty-free and for the 100% recyclable packaging. RRP €22.99

La Roche-Posay Anthelios UVMUNE 400 Hydrating Cream SPF50

This product is anti-eye-stinging (yes, apparently that’s a thing). It can be applied around the eyes and is a great option if you have sensitive skin.
La Roche-Posay say that this sunscreen is water, sweat and sand resistant. I liked the cream formula and the non-greasy look of it when on the face. RRP €21.00

Nivea Sun Shine Control

NIVEA SUN UV Face Suncream SPF 50 Shine Control 50ml

This sunscreen was developed for normal/combination skin types but it contains an eye-friendly formula and I found it fine, even though my skin is sensitive.
The formula is light, and according to Nivea, the mattifying effect of the cream absorbs excess oils from your skin’s surface.
This product isn’t heavy on the face and is non-greasy. RRP €13.50

Garnier Skin Active

Garnier SkinActive Vitamin C 2in1 Brightening Serum Cream SPF 25

This product contains 20% of serum enriched with Vitamin C* and Super Citrus. This formula helps to boost glow and enhance skin’s radiance. The cream is in a serum type bottle and you don’t need much.
It left my face quite shiny so I had to use a loose powder over the top, but I love the texture of the cream and how easily it spreads. It’s suitable for all skin types, even sensitive skin. RRP €12.99
