FLAIR APPARENT: Adventures in fake tan

It’s fair to say I have a checkered history with fake tan (streaky would be more accurate though). I seem to lack whatever gene comes with the ability to cover every bit of my legs with tan.

Some parts of my legs are apparently invisible to me and only appear as glow-white shapes the day after I apply fake tan. I know this about myself and yet, every few years I try to take the edge of my bluish-tinted skin and I give fake tan another go.

I was recently sent a new tanning product to try.

Tanning experts Bellamianta have a new range out that include Concentrated Tan Booster Drops for the face and for the body.

The idea of these drops is that you add a few drops to your usual moisturiser and your tan builds up slowly over a few days. Kind of like easy-tanning-for-dummies I thought.

Perfect for a tan novice like me. I bravely dipped my stark-white toe back into the world of fake tan.

All in the name of journalism of course, the things I’ll do for my readers…

The following day I was delighted to see a much more healthy version of myself in the mirror.

I wouldn’t say I was glowing, but I didn’t look as sickly.

The drops in my facial moisturiser had worked a treat.

I didn’t have any missing patches either which was another bonus.

Feeling all delighted with myself I left the house and once under the full glare of the sun I noticed a weird mark on my leg.

I tried to remove it and when it wouldn’t budge it dawned on me that it was a clump of fake tan that had formed a brown splodge.

On closer inspection I realised that my legs were practically stripey.

I don’t know why I have such a poor awareness of my own legs but I have the white lines to prove it.

It’s important that you know I’m accepting full responsibility for this mishap.

The areas where the tan had been applied were a lovely light honey colour, so the drops themselves were not to blame.

I decided to continue with the face drops and to ditch any effort at having lightly tanned legs.

I’ve been applying the facial drops once every three days since.

The result is that people have stopped asking me if I’ve been unwell lately, so I view that as a big win.

My poor legs should probably come with a glare warning, but I’ll just have to learn to live with that.

Here’s a few tanning drops products to try if you’re wanting to add a little glow to your face or body.
