Five is the magic number for one Gweedore family who took delivery of five brand new Hyundai Santa Fe jeeps last weekend.
The white jeeps, which were a special order and specially delivered from Korea, cost approximately €200,000.
Terence Diver, proprietor of Divers Hyundai Garage, Canal Road, Letterkenny, said that he thought he had won the lottery when he received the order for the five vehicles before Christmas.
“This is the first time ever in Donegal, or indeed Ireland, that the first five privately owned registration numbers were on the same type of vehicle,” Mr Diver said. Each personalised plate costs €1,000.
Heads have been turned throughout the Gweedore Parish in recent days as the owners and the vehicles, bearing the number plates 11 DL1, 11 DL 2, 11 DL3, 11 DL4 and 11 DL 5, went about their business.
The first jeep was delivered a week ahead of the other four, which were left parked outside the family home for two brothers and their two sisters on Sunday morning. It is understood that two of the jeeps have automatic transmissions.
This is not the first time that the family have bought more than one vehicle at the one time.
It 2005, the family took delivery of four new Hyundai Santa Fe jeeps but they did not bear consecutive number plates while in 1999 they purchased three Freelander jeeps.
“There is a five year warranty with each of the Hyundai Santa Fe jeeps which gives the family hassle free motoring until 2016,” Mr Diver said.
