FIVE arts organisations in Donegal will receive a total of €754,450 in funding, the Arts Council has announced.
Under the category of Arts Centres, An Grianán Theatre will receive €180,000 and the Regional Culture Centre earns €205,000.
Not for profit organisation Cairdeas na bhFidiléirí, which can be translated as Friendship or Association of Fiddle Players, and whose mission is to support and promote the art of fiddle playing in the Donegal tradition, receives a sum of €56,950.
Earagail Arts Festival, our flagship annual arts festival is awarded €305,000.
Both of these funding amounts come from the pot of Strategic Funding grants.
Cló & Co Printmaking Studio in Ramelton, the centre for printmaking in Donegal which supports seven artists, will receive €7,500 through the Visual Artists Workspace Scheme.
This is the first round of a direct grant funding announcement, which is worth €68.5M nationally and awards 175 grants to organisations, art centres and arts studios across the country.
Chair of the Arts Council, Maura McGrath said: “The Art Council’s budget for 2025 will be used to support, strengthen and help develop arts organisations across the country.”
The funding announcement comes as applications for funding to the Arts Council continue to rise and the gap between the amount of funding offered and the amount requested is at a record level.
The amount of grant support sought is at the unprecedented level of 245 per cent of 2019’s amount.
“We recognise the difficulties and challenges that the current level of available funding brings, and commit to advocating for increased funding for our sector,” added Ms McGrath.
For those that missed out on this round of funding, there are currently 33 new direct grant schemes open and welcoming applications. All arts organisations are invited to submit their competitive applications.
