Fishing boat rescued by RNLI after vessel loses power

THE VOLUNTEERS at Lough Swilly RNLI had their first call out of 2023 this morning after they assisted a fishing vessel that lost power.

The team were tasked shortly after 10.30am by Malin Head Coast Guard Radio to come to the assistance of a small fishing vessel. The fishing boat had lost power after a rope got caught up on its propeller.

“The crew established a tow and took the boat to Rathmullan before returning to Buncrana to refuel and make ready for service,” said a Lough Swilly RNLI spokesperson.

“Remember, if you’re in difficulty in or on the water or see someone in trouble, dial 999 or 112 and ask for the Coast Guard.”
