THE first Evil Eye Gathering Festival which took place in the parish of Cloch Cheann Fhaola last weekend has been hailed as a great success.

The festival told the story of how Cloch Cheann Fhaola got its name. Through live dance, battles, music, and outdoor drama re-enactments the mythological tale of Balor of the Evil Eye was brought to life.

“What an amazing and inspiring weekend of mythology, creativity and inspiration, from the procession on Friday night that hundreds of people turned out for to the out door plays in Ballyconnell woods, the trip to Tory, it was great,” said Moira Ní Ghallachóir, Publicist.

“And as Kathleen Gallagher, festival director said herself, she couldn’t thank enough people, and this all came out of a mad idea she had, and with a bit of community spirit look at what was achieved,” said Moira.

Kathleen Gallagher said: “It was Annemarie McCafferty’s school of dancers who stole the show at the Sunday event. However Maureen Byrne’s school of dancers danced a fantastic matron guard dance at the Balor drama on Saturday. And it was Nora Kavanagh school of dancing who led us through the Waves of Tory!! All credit to the dancing schools we have in our locality.”
